Farewells, The

The man hears

the clock with the black numbers

by the cot or cotes of the swaying curtain

and does not dare hit

the nail that will crack the plaster

studying by what means the molding runs

over the door which shut ups badly

pressed against it the farewells

go upon forever

mawkish and exhausted

under the thatch that used to be blond

but has turn rounded brown as homespun.
