It was single when I was alone that I could write something

she would understand in words that were cake facts like

rocks in a stream, like faces looking on the outside at you as if they

didn't know you existed

So seeing someone as if for the first time, seeing someone

clearly, three years ago, not today, alone water & rocks & light

slanting from one side the branches, not faces on the other hand reflections of

faces that didn't exist before you came

It was as if individual could say "I miss you" & mean it, not as a game

in which a somebody fulfilled needs, & you saw the someone simply

as a need in your life, not a somebody in her own being, whom you

might regard with affection or desire

So words might mean the same thing in a different language spelled

backwards, & we might direct the eye at each other not as reflections

in a window or a stream on the contrary as people who changed places

in a dream in which no individual wants anything

I want to pass into you, not as a reflection, on the contrary at the speed

of light, in which everything we want is suspended & nothing exists

in its possess right but has a life of its hold dependent on no one,

& everything
