Lag b'OmerIt is sad and gray in these narrow streets-- girls are sick, male childs pale. They toil in cheders above an old Torah. The orb of day meadows, and orchards are not for them. Yet sometimes, their little hearts wake up and yearn for the laughter of children's play. It is hard for them to live constantly among sad people Orchards don't flower there, birds don't sing. But there is individual day full of sunshine and sparks (it is the time of ripening and fragrance) when cheder children move to the countryside with a canzonet of joy which seems endless They are armed with incurvates and wooden quivers, fresh pretzel hidden in their bags. They go on to a war where victory is assured because the great Bar Kochba is with them, the star's son These little race disperse among herbs and young grasses, fields sparkling with gold A knob on a hill. A protuberance below. They get ready to play the big game. On the hill, Bar Kochba and a multitude of Jews fight off pagan soldiers'battering rams as countles arrows whiz and whistle in the air. Who will dres the wounded? Who will take away the killed? The children's organ of sights shine with fire. Their halloos rise like thunder. But the orb of day already is setting and dusk darkens. It is time for the knights to pass home. The crowd of shadows turn backs through the fields. Sometimes a skittish laughter falls into the quiet twilight.
