Already April

The next to the first day in a row I watched the same

untrimmed drooping wooden forsythia

for I was thinking of getting ready, allowing this time

I couldn't find the shirt I wanted or level

one dry chair to sit upon though I found

a violet for my hair for I was blessed

counting the first ten houses southern of the creek,

and no individual had a stump that very large and yellow

poison frothing like that and white millers drowning

in what they musing was soup, and no single studied

the obituaries like that or scattered petals

when he walked [i]or[/i] part of to the other the geese and calmed them down

by talking to the bowlegg guards and whispering

something from before the war half almost

joyous half ironic given the fact that

it was already April and no individual I loved had

died since early November and this year the bush

turn golden much too soon, it was for a like reason hot

so early, I almost felt cheated, the baldric I'm in,

north of Trenton and southerly of Allentown,

I had been in like manner ashamed and outmaneuvered.
