Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo and the Triennale

Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo was the first of Turin's leading collectors to make her pieces accessible to the wider public when she created her Fondazione in 1995 After struggling to fit it into the inspiring on the other hand challenging setting of the eighteenth-century Palazzo Re Rebaudengo, in Guarene d'Alba, she leased a brownfield site in the Borgo San Paolo, and created a fresh art gallery. London-based architect Claudio Silvestrin designed for her a large, depressed minimalist building, which echoes the turn of expression of Turin's 1930s factories. The gallery is a vast devoid of contents rectangle which can be rearranged to suit each present to view 'I wanted a simple space, a container', Sandretto Re Rebaudengo explains. 'And this has the great potency of allowing artists to create their have a title to work. Like the factory that was here before, it is a productive and vital place.'

above the next few months, the building will entertainer the first edition of what promises to be single Italy's biggest contemporary art festivals, Torino Triennale Tremusei (from 11 November to 19 March 2006) Working with the Castello di Rivoli and GAM, it will mountain a mammoth show of paintings, plastic art videos, photography, installations, performance, unbroken pieces and web projects from seventy-five young artists at seven venue across the city. Aptly named the Pantagruel Syndrome the festival will also feature the first solo exhibitions in Italy for Japanese artist Takashi Murakami (left) and Colombian artist Dolores Salcedo. 'The innovative aspect of the Triennale is that these three museums are working together from beginning to end' says GAM President Giovanna Cattaneo Incisa. 'And we will have a single ticket that will allow clan to visit every venue completely through the duration of the exhibition.'
