Dumfries House

Dumfries House in Ayrshire, Scotland, an eighteenth-century house out and out with much of its original furniture, is to be sold through its owner, the Marquess of Bute Designs for the house were discussed with William Adam, and after his death his son Robert and John built it; the furniture, which includes a cluster of Chippendale pieces, is the largest documented collection of the period in private hands, The National Trust of Scotland is eager to acquire the house and contenteds perhaps by means of a private treaty sale that would proffer a tax benefit to Lord Bute However, Chief Executive Robin Pellew explained to APOLLO that the likely take away from of tens of millions of beats could be prohibitive. If the National Trust were to attempt to acquire the house, it would probably be as part of a consortium of institutions, including the Scottish Executive.
