The horizontal of success that has sustained community guilds in the past will not suffice for the futurity Shifting environments, resources, competitors, accountability, and technology have changed the measures of organizational performance. This article provides a fresh framework and defines a fresh set of critical measures that will put in motion community colleges from success to significance.

American community society s face a future marked by the agency of contrasts. Demand for services is increasing. Support from communities is powerful Business and industry leaders are increasingly turning to community guilds as their workforce providers. Large foundations are increasing their support. Projections for further development challenge the projections for futurity resources. But demands for accountability continue to accelerate. And while as community community professionals we pride ourselves upon being more responsive and more nimble than our four-year brethren and while we brag about our character as the gateway to opportunity for the underserv and underrepresent we have to face the fact that our piece of work is more challenging than at any time Graduation and retention rates are largely unimproved. The aging baby boomer and dynamic demographics of our communities are increasing the compressing on our models for workforce disclosure Our K-12 partners are struggling to address the of recent origin challenges of less prepared pupils and more transient families. In this mixed environment, Barr and Tagg's (1995) Change article provided a direction during the past decade as community corporations engaged in the learning paradigm, a shift from faculty-to learner-centeredness. Community guilds are also a choice for learners with degrees who are seeking more marketable skills. Increasingly, younger, more traditional-age learners are choosing community colleges, or "reverse-transferring," following a failed or disappointing university experience. scholars turn to community colleges for basic skills brush-up or fresh skills acquisition. Across the broad appearance of the community college mission, learners are arriving on our campuses in greater numbers--a measure of our increasing success
