"Et la lumiere fut": the meanings of David d'Angers's monument to Gutenberg - Johann Gensfleich GutenbergThis is the first in-depth research of the social meanings of single of the major civic memorials of nineteenth-century France: Pierre-Jean David d'Angers's homage to Johann Gutenberg, set uprighted at Strasbourg in 1840. in what way this work is related to the toils around the issue of freedom of the pres and to republican politics during the July Monarchy (1830-48) the two in France as a whole and in the city of Strasbourg in particular, is examined in detail.
