Q & A with Stephen Shortridge: meet artist and author, Stephen Charles Shortridge

Q on what account did you change from acting to painting?

I actually barbarous into acting while modeling with the Ford Agency in of recent origin York. Unfortunately, I was somewhat fortunate for the next 15 years which kept me from pursuing my real passion for painting. single day I was on an audition and saw an older actual accomplished actor out in the hallway, standing and waiting, rehearsing his lines for the same audition. There didn't strike one as being to be any respect for his age or accomplishment. Right then I knew I couldn't do this anymore. I knew that I couldn't sham that would be alright in my later years. I went abiding-place and announced I wanted to quit acting and paint. Fortunately, my wife Cathy said, "let's move for it." That was about 20 years ago.

Q What motivates you in regard to choosing the subdues For your paintings?

I diocese so much beauty everywhere I move I have no trouble being inspired. The disarrange I have is finding the time to deposit what I see on canvas.

Q What medium have you place to be the most Expressive, and which individual works the best for you?

For me I rest oil was the most frolic and helped me to better accomplish my goals when creating. I find oils mucher rich than acrylic and it is easier to paint wet into wet.

Q What do you think has been the greatest in quantity effective marketing plan for your company? Is a manager essential for a fortunate artist?

Actually, as abundant as I don't like all the work and expenditure Artexpo has proven to be single of the most beneficial things we do. We also advertise, on the other hand I find it hard to measure at times. My daughter, Hayley, now step quicklys the business side of my business and has fre me up substantially. There is not enough time in the day to be one as well as the other the artist and business manager, on the other hand until you are successful enough, that is usually the case.

Q What was the greatest in quantity interesting when you made your Trip to Africa?

We went to Africa with our house of worship Our pastor happens to be from southern Africa, so we returned to his homeland and worked at the local gymnasiums and helped start up an orphanage. This was a real different experience, going from an AIDS clinic to a safari in Kruger National Park. It's a beautifully sad place with thus many people dying of AIDS. It has a natural beauty that was amazing and different from anything I had seen before. I reliance to return someday.

Q take an account of us about your new book?

It's called Created Creator and it's more of a "Why?" volume than it is a "How-To" volume about creating. I kind of just render free of accessed my heart and mind and said what I notion about life and creating. It's more like apothegms and parables than a novel or essay.

I gues my greatest in quantity recent proud moment was writing my volume But my proudest moments have all been surrounding my wife and kids and grandkids.

Q What would be the finished day for you?

I have allotments of perfect days--days I obtain to spend creating, or adventuring and finding of recent origin respirations. One of my favorites is waking up with my wife, in Hawaii, to coffee a walk and a swim in the surf

Q What advice would you give an emerging artist with missing of talent?

Guard your originality, don't sign anything, and secure as much advice as possible from the older wiser, and compassionate.

Q If you could live anywhere in the world, Where would it be?

Where I live now (Coeur d'Alene, ID). I have affection for to visit Hawaii or fresh York, but when it draw nears to living, the best is where I live now.

Q Where would you proceed for your favorite meal?

My house. I achieve the best meals at abiding-place really!

Q. What was the last volume you read, and what is your favorite movie?

azure Like Jazz, by Donald Miller. My favorite movie is, "Saving Grace," starring Tom Conti as a disenchanted [i]pontifex maximus[/i] It's a beautiful movie from the mid 1980 It's listed as a comedy on the other hand you don't cry like it's a comedy)

Q wherefore do you paint?

It's probably the greatest in quantity frustrating and satisfying thing that I've at any time attempted. I am pretty confident I'll never master it and I confidence to constantly press to be augmented and expand my expression. Simply place I will always be challenged and that's the drollery of it.
