Sculpting emotion: for sculptor Martin Eichinger, his art is all about relationshipsMartin Eichinger does not leave to himself as a figurative sculptor, despite his obvious understanding of the human anatomy. "I am a narrative artist. The language I use is form and anatomy, on the contrary what I try to sculpt is romantic, emotional and perhaps, mythical art." His plastic arts are captivating, thought-provoking and sensual stories in tin Although the work is oftentimes categorized into themes, there is a cohesiveness in the universal and technique used in all his figurative work. All of it is about relationships of individual kind or another. His compassion for human stories gives all his work a sensitivity and a faculty of perception of approachability. Eichinger studied design and anatomy at Ferris State University in Michigan and did postgraduate work in plastic art at Michigan State University, and pursu independent studies of classical plastic art in Europe. Although he studied advertising and commercial art, Eichinger ran the art department at Delta body "I did all the graphics, pamphlets announcements and designed sets for Delta's TV station," he says. He then exhausted 10 years in Lansing and started an advertising agency that produc three-dimensional exhibits for science museums. Eichinger sculpt during those years, although he was frustrated with art galleries that were more interested in marketability than the creative expression. In 1985 he mov to Portland, embracing romanticism as the make submissive matter for his sculptures." I think of my statuarys as being romantic, mythical narratives," he says. "I think about their stories, as I base the figures upon life stories that I imagine for them." He doesn't have a question at issue letting go of a finished piece. He believes that when the complet statuary enters someone else's space, dialogue is exchanged and a ligature is formed. Eichinger's articulation regarding his work and the inspiration and motivation behind his creations is poetic, touching and thought-provoking. The sensitivity and profundity of thought that he expresse in discussing his creations is reflective of other verse that inspires refined ideas and forms. Sitting upon a stool with wheels, the piece upon which he is working is upon a turntable in front of him. He works all above the sculpture, and often goe back and forth between several plastic arts in various stages of completion. He does not consider himself a prolific artist, completing sole about six sculptures a year. He may enlarge a piece into a life-sized form, and repeatedly sells editions varying in size from 20 to 100 "I am a technical stay and love making complex things" he says. "Collectors of my work don't want to know by what means it's built; they let go on of the technical aspect of the piece. It diminishes the impact if they know."
