Two sides to every storyRe: your article, "Galleries Find Museum displays To Be a 'Natural Fit,'" page 40 September, I have to say that there is another side to this story. I read an article in Art Talk earlier this year, a publication on the outside of Scottsdale, AZ, that took the opposite slant. Galleries are quite overturn with museums having competing exhibits that draw better and more novel works from their top artists, thus depleting galleries of art to exchange as well as competing for the collector's dollars. Museums accept public dollars, and can raise coin with the tax-deductible gambit, something commercial galleries cannot do. This creates an unfair playing field. Artists, if given the choice of a gallery present to view or a museum show, will likely prefer the museum show as it adds a cachet to their credentials. The museums may also clinch out the opportunity of a purchase, making this a real tantalizing option. This 'natural' relationship can start on the outside very symbiotically, but the museums look to come out ahead. Galleries beware.
