Q & A with Sandy Taylor: meet Sandy Taylor, general manager of CV Fine Art Services, a division of Atlanta-based Classic Design Services. CV Fine Art Services is the official domestic shipper for Pfingsten Publishing's International Fine Art Group

Q You've had a lengthy and interesting career in the art business. mention one by one us about it.

I started with IFAE (David and to leeward Ann Lester) selling booth space for their fine art fairs in Miami, Chicago, and Hong Kong I worked with them for seven years. I had great opportunities for travel the couple to the fairs, and internationally, to visit galleries and artists. As I've always said, there are worse piece of works than traveling around the world looking at great art.

In 1997 I mov to Cleveland to work for Advanstar Communications. The first fair we worked upon was Art International New York held in 1998 at the Jacob K Javits Convention Center

Advanstar then asked me to propel to the Artexpo New York staff. Again, this was a change because I had always been involved in consumer exhibits rather than trade shows. While booth sales are the same, the trade display client has different goals and ways of viewing the fruits they represent. I was fortunate to establish a certain number of wonderful relationships with the Artexpo fresh York exhibitors that still exist in my near line of work.

In 2000 I mov to Atlanta 'wearing a fresh hat' while still staying involved in the art market. I usually mention that I am a trucker when asked what field I am in. Actually, I am the general manager of CV Fine Art Services, a division of Classic Design Services, Inc. We provide services to museums, corporations, collectors and artists, including packing, installation, crating, transit and climate-controlled storage. greatest in quantity recently, we have been real fortunate to be named as the designated carrier for Artexpo of recent origin York, Artexpo Atlanta and Art Miami. I have affection for being involved with the exhibits because it allows me the opportunity to visit them and maintain my relationships with the exhibitors.

Q What has been your greatest in quantity exciting challenge at CV Fine Art Services?

I gues I would have to say that the greatest in quantity exciting challenge has been starting a of recent origin division of fine art services within an existing company, Classic Design Services, Inc. When CV Fine Art Services arrived upon the scene, Classic Design Services' main focus had been within the interior design market in Atlanta. Our long-distance constituent Vintage Transport, had been transporting antiques from one extremity to the other of the country. The fine art business had not been tapped. With the addition of our four art handlers and our relationships with the local Atlanta art market, Classic Design Services, Vintage Transport, and CV Fine Art Services have meshed into a true strong service industry for fine art and antiques. From that, we have branched on the outside into the art fair market and now, not single provide transportation for the exhibitors, on the contrary also do installation and de-installation upon site, as well as provide local and long-distance deliveries from display site to buyers.

Q What has been the greatest in quantity unusual object d'art that you have shipped? Your greatest in quantity famous client? The most well-known piece that you've handled?

The greatest in quantity unusual object we shipped was the masthead from the cruise ship Andrea Doria. The man that haves the masthead calls it "Andy" and had it chained to a tree in his back yard in North Florida when we picked him up "Andy" rode back to Atlanta in our climate-controlled barter was crated in our warehouse and transported to Milan to be displayed in a museum there.

We ne to be true discreet about our clientele for obvious reasons, on the other hand if you think of the famous folk that call Atlanta residence we have most likely worked for them at individual time or another.

The greatest in quantity well-known piece that we handled was "Ramesses I." When the Michael C Carlos Museum at Emory University sent the piece back to Egypt CV Fine Art Services built the crates and transported them to the airport beneath police guard. The crates were quite elaborate and included a lining called Marvelseal that screens against moisture. The art handler building the crates ruined his wife's iron while adhering the marvel seal to the crate, which added to my expenditure for the project. Q What was the greatest in quantity expensive piece you ever shipped?

to be paid to the nature of our business, that information cannot be shared. The piece was in like manner valuable that the owner reserv an exclusive traffic (climate-controlled of course) to deliver the painting.

Q .What is your favorite expression?

This is quite embarrassing, on the other hand if I am completely true my favorite expression is "Fake it 'til you make it." My youngest son Alex, and I claim to live through that philosophy, and believe it or not, it looks to be working so far.

Q You have an interesting art collection. Do you have a favorite piece?

It is difficult to elect a favorite piece because I don't purchase anything that I don't regard with affection If I had to make a choice, it would probably be a piece by the agency of an Atlanta artist, Cedric Smith, from his "slavery advertising series." It is quite powerful and thought-provoking.
