Exhibit celebrates nation's sweet toothof recent origin YORK -- With the average American consuming more than 11 beats of chocolate each year, The Hammer Galleries has upon exhibit through Oct. 8, "How Sweet It Is! The Art of Candy," featuring Peter Anton's super-sized plastic arts of chocolates, ice cream bars, Danishes and other confections. The present to view is part of the artist's ongoing series of aliment sculptures that celebrate viewers' earliest and greatest in quantity beloved culinary memories. Although he does sculpt fruits and vegetables, Anton's first be fond of is the sweets. "Sweets associate with the inner part of everyone's mind that was once filled with wonderment curiosity and the freedom to believe" says Anton. "My plastic arts are overwhelmingly large reminders of the happiness that chocolates and other treats bring people" The exhibit includes 15 giant boxe of assorted chocolates, with the largest measuring 48 x 48 x 10 inches, as well as oversized dark and milk chocolate ice cream bars in various states of being eaten, each measuring 65 x 23 x 10 inches. The sweets are made of ceramic-like plaster material. Anton's work has been exhibited in several museums and galleries from one extremity to the other of the United States, such as the Austin Museum of Art in Texas; the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Ridgefield, CT; the Allan Stone Gallery, of recent origin York; as well as in private collections, including former President Bill Clinton, Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer and The Barenaked Ladies.
