Ancient Mexican sculpture explored"Heritage of Power: Ancient statuary from West Mexico--The Andrall E Pearson Family Collection" upon view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from one side April 3, emphasizes the human figure from one side its activities and concerns. The exhibition showcases more than 40 ceramic plastic arts made in the western region of Mexico more than 2000 years ago. The volcanic highland areas of contemporary Mexican states of Colima, Jalisco and Nayarit are the source of three-dimensional statuarys that portray ancestors, warriors, ballplayers, dancers, musicians and other depictions of life and ritual. The pieces range in a grade from beige to a reaching far down brown-red and are finished with a variety of closely hu and textur surfaces.
