Museum announces next president

of recent origin YORK -- The Metropolitan Museum of Art announces Emily Kernan Rafferty as its newest president, which went into consequence Jan. 15, replacing the former president, retiree David E McKinney. Rafferty has been agented by the museum for 28 years, and since 1999 has serv as the Met's senior vice president for external affairs, with responsibilities in unfolding visitor services, admissions and special circumstances She also led the effort to create and manage the museum's Web site and its multicultural audience.

"Emily Rafferty is [a rare and priceless colleague]: a committed, tireless, and gifted professional who has devot nearly her entire working lifetime to the Met" says Philippe de Montebello, museum director. "[Rafferty] largely understands its complexities, yet possesse the inventiveness and power to forge new and better ways to help it safeguard its pre-eminence into the 21st century"

Rafferty was nominated for the position through the executive committee of the board of trustees. In her fresh position, Rafferty will be responsible for supervising all areas of the museum administration, including unfolding and membership, technology and information services, human resources, merchandising, communications, as well as security and construction. She will report to the director, Philippe de Montebello and will be subservient to as an ex officio member upon the board of trustees.
