Wildlife artist climbs to the top

CONCORD, NH -- The 2004 Grand Prize in the Arts for the Parks competition was awarded to wildlife artist Ron Orlando at the 18th annual banquet at the Jackson Lake hut in Jackson Hole, WY. Orlando's ingress entitled, "Olympic Twins" depicts bear whelps in the dense forest of the Olympic National Park. As the winner, he received $25000 and international recognition for individual of the most prestigious wildlife awards.

The competition was designed to celebrate representational artists and to enhance the public awareness of national parks. It honors those artists who have "best captured the spirit of our National Park System" This year, more than 2300 entries were received from all 50 states and four foreign countries. Of them, alone 100 were chosen for the event
