Wild, wild west

"Frontier Memories: 19th- and 20th-Century Art of the American West" is upon exhibit at the Taft Museum of Art from one side Feb. 6, documenting native tillages and wildlife that were quickly disappearing. The circumstance features paintings, watercolors and plastic arts from a private collection of American Western art.

"By the make go round of the 20th century, the 'wild' West was gone" says John Wilson, curator. The West had been settl with paved roads across the region and the Indians were confined to reservations. Wilson continues, therefore, "The American public unfolded a taste for art that preserv the West as a sign of great ness, noble innocence, individuality and untapped potential"

The works in the exhibit portray Westward expansion, spectacles from settlers' daily lives, American Indian tillage cowboys, and mountain landscapes by the agency of master American Western artists similar as, George Catlin, Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Moran, Charles M Russell, Henry Farny and Frederic Remington.
