Recently acquired fiber art works on display

"Traditions/Transitions: The Changing World of Fiber Art" is upon exhibit at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art end March 6 and showcases newly acquired works through Lenore Tawney and Norma Minkowitz, as well as works by means of Olga de Amaral, Sheila Hicks and Gerhardt Knodel. Tawney's drawing, "Blue Fountain" (1964) is paired with the plastic art created 33 years later, "Drawing in the Air #13" (1997) It is made of centurys of threads that are accented with beads in a plexiglass "loom" Carol Dean Krute curator, says the plastic art "sings the song the artist heard in a textile factory as well as the compounded structure created on it" Minkowitz transforms the proces of crochet into a medium for plastic art Using wire and polyurethane, her works may take the form of a shadow case such as "Permeance" (1990), or as a figural plastic art such as "Goodbye Goddess" (2003)
