Rebar vs. WWR

The article "Concrete California style" in the June issue is a true interesting study on placing reinforcing carburet of iron in concrete. A similar article, "Solving Reinforcement Problems" (for building thicken frames in high seismic zones) was published in September 1983 This article mentions the placing techniques used (all rebar) comeed in an eight day pouring round of years per floor. It seems we took this to a higher horizontal 23 years ago by using welded wire reinforcement (WWR) for round pillar ties and beam stirrups upon the Pacific Park Plaza throw out in the San Francisco area, where 23000 square feet of floor through lift was completed every seven working days. Normally the placement of reinforcement determines the spe of the shoot forward In this case it was recycling the placement of the flying forms that controll the cast speed.

move with a jerk Richardson makes an excellent point. We have been discussing WWR used for confinement reinforcing in rounded pillar ties and shear reinforcement in beams and girders for a lengthy time. Bob has been involved upon many building projects using of recent origin factors in seismic design--there is more interest in WWR for these applications. In the bridge world, we diocese where beam and girders, primarily precast/prestressed members have WWR rather than rebars for shear reinforcing. It would be nice to recognize WWR for flat a greater time and material savings in one as well as the other building and bridge projects.
