A Message From The PresidentIt have the appearances hard to believe that my sum of two units years as the president of the Connecticut Nurses' Association are coming to a shut It has been an honor to labor for and represent the nurses of Connecticut. During my manner [i]or[/i] principle of holding as the world finished the twentieth hundred and began the twenty-first, the CNA board has been working tirelessly upon developing a strategic plan for the Association This has consum many hours, several weekend retreats, and an endles stream of e-mails, on the contrary I am pleased that the plan is about to be launched. I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank all of the board members, our consultant Toni Starrs, and, of course, Polly Barey and the quiescence of the Connecticut Nurses' Association staff for all of their hard work and commitment to the health of our Association. In addition to the work at the state horizontal the board and the fix uponed delegates to the ANA House of Delegates have been quite busy. From June 14 thru June 18th 2005 I attended the annual meetings of the Center for American nourishs (CAN), the Constituent Assembly, and the ANA House of Delegates. The Center for American supply with nourishments has just completed its next to the first year. Its mission is to create a community of nursing organizations that be under the orders of non-union nurses by providing programs, tools and policies that address workplace bear upons It houses what used to be known as workplace advocacy states whereas the United American nourishs (UAN), the organizing umbrella for nourishs in collective bargaining states. The theme for this year's meeting was Mission Possible, and plenteous of the work revolved around ways to best share with other CMA succes stories. Another focus for the cluster was how to best brand CAN and whether this should be in conjunction with ANA or separate. Following the CAN meetings, the Constituent Assembly conven The Assembly fits twice a year; its members are the presidents and executive directors of the ANA CMAs. The theme of the Constituent Assembly focused upon ANA and its constituent members forming strategic partnerships with individual another. The elements of leadership, the duties and responsibilities of nonprofit boards were also discussed. The House of Delegates was held June 17th-19th More than 600 leaders from ANAs 54 constituent member associations and organizational affiliates met in Washington, DC The HOD took action upon behalf of the profession by means of approving reports that supported the nation's right to quality health care, the well-being of children, and nurses' rights and welfare (ANA President Barbara Blakeney, RN MS) Additional issues addressed through the delegates included achieving universal access to health care, ensuring registered nurses' crucial character in providing care in community based settings, changing workplace practices that created dangerous horizontals of fatigue among nurses and protecting the rights of detainees and prisoners. The HOD focused special attention upon children and their safety and passed a resolution which called for a suit to the Ad Council to educate parents and others about the danger of leaving children unattended in cars. It was an exciting and action filled meeting of the House. On the dwelling front, I look forward to seeing you all upon November 3, 2005 for the Connecticut Nurses' Association's Annual Meeting. The Board and staff are actual excited about our keynote speaker and all the other activities that are planned.
