'Top 25 Arts Destinations' favors Midwest - news

BALTIMORE -- The Midwest is shedding its rust-belt reputation for a novel era of artistic appreciation, according to a head of readers of AmericanStyle, a bi-annual arts lifestyle publication. The magazine's annual "Top 25 Arts Destination" head has often favored cities upon the coasts. This year, a surprising number of Midwestern cities were added to the list.

Chicago has taken the No. 1 blot this year, up from No. 5 in 2002 Newcomer Milwaukee, Wisc., and Columbus, Ohio, took the No. 10 and 12 slot respectively.

Returning to the list for the first time since 1998 is Cleveland, Ohio, at No. 15 Up three specks to No. 16 is Saugatuck, Mich., making the list for the fourth consecutive year.

Rounding without the Top 10 are fresh York City, down at No. 2 after sum of two units years in the No. 1 slot Up four speckles to No. 3 and 4 are Washington, DC and Boston.
