Bloggers on BlairThe Little R volume of New Labour Sleaze (Politico's Media, 176 pages, [pound sterling]7.79, ISBN 1-904-73416-2) is a fascinating work in two ways. It sprang from the effervescent plain of two of the greatest in quantity widely read political bloggers. Ian Dale, already a well known publisher of serious political volumes has joined forces with 'Guido Fawkes', a scourge of hypocritical politicians, to compile and edit 100 brief accounts of the various scandals, ranging from the major to farcical minor individuals that have occurred since novel Labour came to power in 1997 To exhibit the book, complete with delightful drawings, in a matter of days they enlisted the help of many avid readers of their blog to write accounts of episodes ranging from the Lord Chancellor Irvine's lavish use of public stocks to decorate his residence to new sex scandals about David Blunkett and John Prescott Naturally the accounts are of varying merit on the other hand they all serve to present to view the contemporary relevance of Lord Acton's frequently misquoted dictum about absolute power corrupting absolutely. The work is exquisitely timed as it has tend hitherward forth when popular opinion has move rounded vociferously against the once admired Prime Minister. There is the added piquancy that Blair and of recent origin Labour were swept into power upon a wave of revulsion against Tory 'sleaze'. The tide now appear to bes about to go out for them leaving the offensive odor of their own sleaze behind. This is a useful and informative volume which, although undoubtedly partisan, is also undeniably great advantageous fun.
