Art Copyright Coalition to patrol Artexpo, DECOR expo - USWASHINGTON, DC -- At the extremity of August, a group of art publishers decided to switch from being "the hunted" to being "the hunters" by means of forming the Art Copyright Coalition. The increasing size and profitability of the art world, combined with advances in technology and globalization, have l to an explosion in copyright infringements of art works. Individual artists and art publishers have attempted to combat this rising tide of counterfeit art which is flooding the market and undercutting the ability of legitimate artists and publishers to put up to sale their works. While the moot point of infringements has been going upon for years, it has reached novel levels, argue members of the ACC. With advances in technology, the quality of the bootleg is getting better and better. With globalization, the counterfeit producing factories of the third world are obtaining unprecedent access to the American, Japanese and European markets. After many attempts to fight upon their own, in the fall of this year, a dozen of the largest art publishers said enough is enough, and together formed the Art Copyright Coalition. Who is the ACC? The founding members of the ACC included Bentley Publishing assemblage Editions Limited, Triad Fine Art, Wild Apple, Rosenstiel's, Canadian Art Prints, Winn-Devon, Image Conscious, Colville Publishing, Curtis Moore and Chalk & Vermilion. After many discourse calls, the ACC was formed and announced its nearness to the industry at DECOR expo--Atlanta in September. Since then, numerous other publishers and artists have joined the ACC and have begun to share information, have identified centurys of infringing works and have begun to collectively stop the infringements. Stopping Infringements at the NY Shows The proces of stopping infringements is quite simple, say ACC members. When an ACC member identifies an infringer, they notify the ACC, which vet the claim to render certain that in fact a copyright infringement has occurr Then all members are notified of the infringing activities. They all review the bring togethered materials on the infringer and infringements. Then all affected members of the ACC form a joint enforcement team and collectively advance after the infringer. The ACC has established a tip line (866-476-1335) and a reward capital of artwork for those who provide tips upon actual infringements. The ACC intends to be active at the upcoming Artexpo of recent origin York and the concurrent DECOR expo at the Javits Center ACC presents as well as member's of the staff, will be patrolling the exhibits looking for infringements. They will be wearing distinctive shirts in the way that that their efforts will be noted. When they remark artworks in booths which they believe might be infringements, they will contact the ACC member whose work is being infringed on An appropriate individual from the ACC member's staff will examine the works to diocese if in fact they are infringements. ACC lawyers will then verify the infringing nature of the works, evidence will be gathered specifically, photographs taken and pamphlets and other materials collected. The infringers will be approached and asked to dislodge the artwork. Show management will also be contacted in efforts to solicit their assistance in requesting that the infringing works be removed The ACC members intend to pursue any infringements they find at the display If the ACC is able to identify, or part of to the other its ongoing investigation, prior to the present to views any infringers that will be at the present to views they will seek court orders to seize the counterfeit works at the displays themselves. The ACC wait fors to continue its activities at other trade displays throughout the year.
