French drawings make American premiere at Frick - PittsburghThe Frick Art Museum is publicly hosting the American premiere of "Drawn Toward the Avant-Garde: 19th and 20th hundred French Drawings from the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Copenhagen." The collection was prefered from a vast collection of French drawings at Copenhagen's Royal Museum of Fine Arts, providing a comprehensive scan tracing the development of novel drawing. The exhibition overspreads the Romantic movement of the early 19th hundred to mid-century drawings of the Barbizon institute through the avant-garde abstraction of the early 20th hundred Also featured is the importance of the landscape to early 19th-century French artists who sought to create images of calm that were far remov from the fast-expanding metropolis of Paris. Examples of the use of nature, French Modernism and the geometric discipline of French Concretism are also upon view. The exhibit features 80 French masters, including Ingres, Millet, Rousseau, Gauguin, Gris, Manet, Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec.
