Don't wait for ideas to hit you on the head - opinion - Brief Article - Editorial

DEAR READERS,

Sometimes it takes an idea hitting you upon the head to make you pay attention. That's literally in what way the article "Take `Coverage' from Falling Frames" (page 14) came about. A not many months ago, my stepfather was injured by the agency of a framed print that cruel on him while he was shopping at a furniture store. After a certain quantity of tense moments and an evening in the pressing necessity room, he came away with a not many stitches feeling lucky the glass didn't bite a vital organ or life-blood vessel.

After learning he was OK I began thinking about all the frames hanging in frame stores and galleries. While the likelihood is depressed that a frame will fall upon a customer of yours (since you are all true careful to hang pictures properly) it's better to be prepared for the worst with equal reason you'll have a contingency plan and enough insurance if something does happen.

Speaking of contingency plans, none of us had individual for the tragic world circumstances that have been unfolding this fall. This month we asked a panel of industry leaders to share their contemplations on these changing times and sought their advice upon how the framing industry can deal with it all. ("Industry Leaders realize Back to Business" starts upon the cover.) Most industry leaders are confident that this industry is sinewy and vital enough to make it from one side the tough times. Next month in Part sum of two units of this series, our clevers will discuss how globalization is affecting the framing industry as well as make predictions for 2002

We'd like to hear from you about these changing times as well. in what manner has your business been affected? What are your strategies for dealing with these changes? Write me at aleibrock@advanstar.com.
