Fay Sciarra - Emerging Artists - Brief Article - Interview

While Fay Sciarra has been painting for single eight years, her imaginative paintings have been gaining attention for their valorous colors, intricate patterns, unexpected details and a lack of perspective. A self-taught painter, Sciarra calls her style" sophisticated naive."

She began painting shortly after her mother died. "I had not ever so much as held a paint brush before," she said." From the minute I started, I have not ever stopped. Besides being fascinated through it, painting was healing, a way of mothering myself, a form of meditation. The make notes I hear most frequently is that my paintings `make you smile.' I always hold my eyes open to the astonishment around me and the little instants that give life its real meaning. Maybe this is the `gift' upon the other side of los and for what cause [i]or[/i] reason so many people respond to the life-affirming message behind the whimsy in my art."

Sciarra is showed by the Frank Miele Gallery in of recent origin York, The Field Gallery in Martha'a Vineyard, Gallery Bonheur in St Louis and the I. Brewster Gallery in Philadelphia, among others. In May, she was profiled upon NBC's "Today Show."
