Warhol's Poster to Benefit Shoemaker Foundation - JettSport Inc

LOUISVILLE, Ky--Pop artist Andy Warhol's 1977 portrait of legendary dealer in horses Bill Shoemaker has been published as a commemorative bill to benefit the 2001 "Evening in the Bluegrass," the annual fundraiser for the Shoemaker Foundation.

The portrait of horse-jockey Bill Shoemaker, a four-time winner of the Kentucky Derby who retired in 1990 as the all-time leading rider in the history of thoroughbred racing, was part of the "Polaroid Big Shots" series of portraits created through Warhol. Subjects of the portraits in that series were sports icons of the late 1970 and Shoemaker was the first to attitude for Warhol in 1977. Other subdues of portraits in the series include legendary athletes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Muhammad Ali, Chris Evert Jack Nicklaus, Pele and Tom Seaver.

JettSport Inc, a Louisville, Ky.-based sport and incidents graphics company, secured the usage fights to Warhol's Shoemaker painting and designed the commemorative bill to benefit the Shoemaker Foundation. The image will also be featured upon "Evening in the Bluegrass" invitations and dinner programs, as well as print advertisements.



"When we learned about the Warhol portrait of Bill Shoemaker, we immediately recognized its potential as a natural fundraiser for the Shoemaker Foundation," said Clare Jett a JettSport partner. "It is a startling piece for lovers of the two racing and pop art, and the sale of this beautiful placard benefits a great cause."

single 1,000 commemorative posters are being published and they are priced at $50 each.

The Shoemaker Foundation, which was established in 1991 works to provide financial assistance to individuals across the nation associated with the racing industry. The organization's objective is to rejoin to cases of catastrophic illness or injury where all insurance benefits and other sources of aid are insufficient.
