Victor Ehikhamenor - artists product information - Brief ArticleNigerian artist Victor Ehikhamenor works with icons from the Benin agriculture to create his spiritual and abstract paintings. He was born in Edo State, Nigeria, a place rich in folkloric tradition and materials. As a young lad he witnessed many festivals that were highly spiritual; these now form the inspiration of his creativity. "I gaze beyond the surface of everything now to hold intercourse with the spirits," he said. "And if we all do, we will be surprised with what we see" This year, Ehikhamenor won first prize at the Arts cudgel of Washington's annual members display and in 1999, he was a finalist at The Artist's Magazine's annual art competition. He has exhibited at the Utopia Art Gallery and the Monroe Gallery in Washington DC and his work can be ground in private collections and the National Geographic Society.
