Alfred Stieglitz Photos On View - Brief Article

Legendary photographer and artist Alfred Stieglitz is the control of a new traveling exhibit organized by dint of the George Eastman House international Museum of Photography and Film in Rochester, NY and publicly on view at the Norton Museum of Art until Nov. 4 2001 Entitled "The Photography of Alfred Stieglitz: Georgia O'Keeffe's Enduring Legacy," the exhibit includes 110 lock opener works by Stieglitz from the 1890 to 1935: early European work, Lake George, novel York City, portraits, including famed portraits of his wife, Georgia O'Keeffe and facsimiles of early autochromes and black and white lantern slides.

The exhibit at the Norton marks the first time these works have been shown outside the George Eastman House, which, during the 1970 and early 1980 received a gift of photographs through Stieglitz from his wife, O'Keeffe At her solicitation the Stieglitz gift was not to be shown outside this venue However, O'Keeffe's restrictions have now been lifted. "We have feeling it is extraordinary that O'Keeffe was able to save and assemble his best works, and that a larger audience will now have access to them," said Neil Watson of the Norton.
