Young Doctor is Guiding Minority Health Policies

As substitute assistant secretary for minority health in the Office of Minority Health (OMH) at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Garth Graham, M D is responsible for developing health policy that addresses minority health affects and ensuring that federal and stale health programs don't ignore the straits of racial, ethnic and disadvantaged populations. He's also executive director of the HH Council upon Health Disparities, which tracks progres upon the department's projects to help eliminate health disparities.

A native of Jamaica, Graham received his undergraduate step from Florida International University in 1996 Four years later, he earned a medical stage from Yale Medical School, where he was named a Yale President Public Service Fellow

Why did you want to become a doctor?

We know our community has an increased number of risk factors - smoking; education, in metes of the mother's education; access to prenatal care, as well as diet. Anything that makes the mother unhealthy increases the chances of the baby being unhealthy. We can't abandon the traditional approaches. We have to combine traditional approaches with non-traditional approaches. Workforce diversity [in healthcare], for example, we know it works. on the contrary technology combined with workforce diversity can bring disparities even further.
