Hermitage Amsterdam debutsA satellite of the State Hermitage Museum St Petersburg freshly opened in Amsterdam. The fresh Hermitage Amsterdam is housed in the vast Amstelhof building, a newly restored 17th-century structure that was one time a home for the somewhat old Refurbished by architect Hubert-Jan Henket and designer Wim Crouwel, the building will eventually contain more than 43000 square feet of exhibition space, as well as offices, educational facilities, a gift store and a cafe. The $47-million, multi-phase throw set for completion in 2007 is being overseen by the agency of museum director Ernst Veen, and capitaled by the Province of North Holland, the City of Amsterdam and the WE Jansen Foundation. Several small galleries upon two floors of the building are commonly open to the public for the museum's inaugural display "Greek Gold," which features facts from the Hermitage that were excavated at Russian archeological sites along the Black Sea.
