Wildenstein lawsuit nixed - Artworld - Brief Article

The lawsuit brought in Paris against writer Hector Feliciano by dint of the Wildenstein family of art dealers has finally draw near to a close. In early October, the French first Court rejected the Wildensteins' claim for $1 million in damages from Feliciano who, in his volume The Lost Museum (published in France in 1995 and in the U in 1997) chronicled business dealings between the family's Paris gallery and Nazi art dealer Karl Haberstock.

Prior to the first Court's dismissal of the claim, the Wildensteins had missing two rounds in lower courts [see "Front Page," July '00] Although these earlier decisions avoided ruling upon the veracity of Feliciano's charges, they lauded him as a responsible historian. The novel decision rejected the Wildensteins' claim upon the grounds that it was filed too drawn out after the book's publication and ordered the family to pay Feliciano $2800 in damages.
