NEA gets more money for 2004 - Artworld - Brief Articleupon Oct. 27, a congressional committee vot to increase the roll for the National Endowment for the Arts to $12248 million, $675 million more than the agency's 2003 funding horizontal of $115.73 million. President Bush had petitioned a smaller increase, to $11748 million, which the Senate had backed. In July the House of Representatives had vot to raise the bundle by $10 million. A discourse committee reconciled the two and included the increased packet in the 2004 interior appropriations bill, which was awaiting the President's signature as this issue went to press The additional funding will support the NEA's Challenge America initiative, which look afters to make the arts more available in underserv communities. Included in the initiative are the Shakespeare in American Communities and Jazz Masters programs for public seminarys and regional areas. The announcement came shortly after the passage of the 2004 defense appropriations bill that includes a separate $1-million allocation for the NEA to bring its Shakespeare program to U military bases.
