Type A at Sara Meltzer - New York - Adam Ames and Andrew Bordwin

"Mark/Point/Stand" is the latest present to view from the New York-based collaborative of Adam Ames and Andrew Bordwin, known together as impressed sign A. The exhibition included three videos and sum of two units multipart photographic works, all uniquely obsessive or repetitive in execution, not to mention amusing and absurd. The artists continued here with their established interests in endurance and the male body

The videos recall Bruce Nauman's compulsive body-oriented video works. For Mark, filmed from above and throw outed on both sides of a large suspended guard the artists used their bodies and chalk to variously demarcate an industrial, gray, cake floor. In one section, Ames and Bordwin take move rounds lying face-down on the floor, leg stretch outed holding a piece of chalk with single hand beneath their foreheads. Pushing with their toes and remaining hand, each rotates around the center point of his material substance drawing a circle on the mould (This sequence reminded me of Leonardo's Vitruvian Man.) At first, the separate circles functioned clearly as indicators of the artists' discrepant heights; however, as the rings accumulated, they blurr together, eliding the difference.

After erasing the circles with a bucket of water and a squeegee the pair sit down facing each other upon the floor; they fashion a diamond shape between them by dint of spreading their legs slightly and joining the individuals of their feet. Together, using more chalk, they color in this mutual space.

The anxiety-provoking three-channel video Point exhibits one of each of the artists' hands placed palm-down, fingers spread, upon a black tabletop. We watch as they perform, at a nerve-racking pace, the adolescent dwarf of rhythmically stabbing a knife at the table between their fingers. This, like Mark, is filmed from above; however, it was shown upon three small wall-mounted monitors.

The photo section of the display was composed of one pair and individual triptych of images that compared various physical features of Ames and Bordwin, of the like kind as their heights and weights. The artists used sand, bricks and forest-land to rig makeshift measuring a whole s The diptych Stand (height) exhibits them on a beach, having nipple a hole and built a platform from sand for individual to stand in and the other upon as a means of evening on the outside their heights. In the triptych Stand (weight), they used a jury-rigged seesaw to equalize their weights, adding bricks to Ames, the lighter single eventually tipping his side. If, as the gallery's pres release claimed, Ames and Bordwin make work about playful competition among men then they present the appearance to be saying that one's challenger can also be one's greatest in quantity valuable partner.
