Forever feminist - Letters - Letter to the Editor

To the Editors:

After reading the article "Feminism at 40" by dint of Carey Lovelace in the May 2003 issue, I had many unanswered questions. individual of the most enduring was: what does it mean to be a woman in today's art world?

Lovelace viewed the feminist change as passe, a significant art change of the late 20th hundred but something that had lengthy since lost its relevancy. After all, in the present day, women artists are prizeed and placed on a horizontal playing field, right? Women have equal opportunities with men and they demand equal reverence Hasn't feminism eradicated all sex stereotypes?

Of course it hasn't. sole the naive would think that sexual stereotype have extremityed A glass ceiling still exists above the heads of hardworking women above 50 percent of the U population is female, and notwithstanding less than 15 percent of all make choice ofed officials are women. What, then, are women artists' responsibilities to the cause?

I tender that each woman, no matter what she does in life, should perpetuate the feminist cause. in the way that women artists, while they do not have to create works that are distinctly feministic, should make fully convinced that, somehow, they are advancing equality. A woman artist can be feminist through simply producing beautiful art work and being female.
