Paul Schwarz at Center Galleries - Brief ArticleVisual artist, musician and community activist, the late Paul Schwarz was tightly uniteed to the Detroit art change known as the Cass Corridor. This collection of artists, intent on challenging the barriers placed between life and art, worked and lived in Detroit's inner city during the late 1960 and early '70 just after the profoundly influential Detroit riots. While more [i]or[/i] less of the group, which included Brenda Goodman, Ellen Phelan, Gordon Newton, John Egner Jim Chatelain, Ann Mikolowski and Michael Luch went upon to launch successful New York careers, Schwarz remained in Detroit until his death from cancer at the age of 52 in 1998 This retrospective of 52 works included statuarys paintings, collages and dioramas, and showed only a fraction of Schwarz's oeuvre frequently laying his paintings on the floor as he worked upon them in his dimly lit studio, Schwarz take pleasure ined approaching a canvas from various angles.
