Summer Fun at P.S.I - P.S.I. Contemporary Art Center - Brief ArticleThe increasingly popular Warm-up series, which features DJ dancing and beer from the local Brooklyn Brewery, kicks not upon on Sunday, July 2, in the courtyard of P 1 and will continue each Saturday from 4 to 9 PM from one side Sept 2. This, the event's third year, also launches five annual competitions--called the Young Architects Program--for emerging architects to design the courtyard installation. Following the merger of P 1 and the Museum of late Art last year, Philip Johnson was commissioned to design a dance pavilion. This year, the novel York-based firm SHoP/Sharples Holden Pasquarelli was chosen from three finalists. The selection, like the ongoing competition, appear to bes more in keeping with the cutting-edge spirit of P 1 and is something of a turn back to the first Warm-up courtyard installation in 1998 which included a sauna, a large inflatable pond and a sun bathing platform by means of the Austrian artist collaborative Gelatin. SHoP's proposal calls for a single wood-and-plastic construction incorporating beach and surf themes. The surface provides shade, seating, cabanas for changing clothing, and platforms for dancing. Relief from fiery summer afternoons is provided through sprayed mist as well as by the agency of water that runs along the surface and assembles in wading pools at the structure's lowest points. Twenty nominees--students, novel graduates and established experimental architects--were picked by architecture.school deans and architecture-magazine editors. The other sum of two units finalists were Taeg Nishimoto and the team LOT/EK Each finalist received $1000 A exhibit of all the project sketches, prototypes and computer renderings is upon view at P.S. 1 this summer COPYRIGHT 2000 Brant Publications, Inc. individual of the greatest enigmas of classical art is the low-relief frieze execut for the Parthenon upon the Athenian Acropolis sometime between 447 and 432 BCE In spite of above two hundred years o... 00-00-0000 Whether upon a machining center or turning center calibrating a probe correctly is the greatest in quantity effective way to maximize its performance and achieve repeatable p...
