In her novel show, titled "more pictures," Louise Lawler photographically contemplateed the artobject in a variety of settings, either switched off to the side in a museum or locate adrift in the marketplace. The finely orchestrated installation integrated an unfolding catalogue of internal relationships, expanded upon them and multiplied their visual links until the exhibition itself resolv into a whole.

In three differently cropp and sized photographs meditating upon the same theme--the presentation of art external realitys in a corner of a Christie's showroom just before an auction--Lawler changes the balance of contented and gives nuance to the reading by means of shifting the point of view inches to the left or to the right or by means of including a passing figure. The first of them, Unsentimental (1999/2000) records a polka-dotted painting through Damien Hirst, Robert Gober's baby crib and Leg with Candle, an Untitled Film Still by dint of Cindy Sherman and a reductive oil and glass "painting" by dint of Charles Ray. In Sentimental, Lawler torques her point of view and gives a bit more Hirst, no Ray and enhanced attention to the rapport between Gober's devoid of contents crib and the starlet upon a lonely highway in Sherman's image. These works are about abandonment, the pictures say. The orphaned phenomenons pictured here are on the road to somewhere other The smallest of these related works, It Could Be Anthony D'Offay, finds the Hirst missing entirely. There is a ghostlike, blurr image of an anonymous visitor, back to Lawler's camera, hands clasped behind his back, gazing at the starlet in the Sherman Still, who in make go round looks away, hands behind her back.

Tinted prints of Andy Warhol's inflated "silver clouds" dangled upon filaments in the first and next to the first galleries. The recondite Lawler named the nebulosity pictures in the exhibition Something About Time and Space on the other hand I'm Not Sure What It Is (1998) directing attention without specifying what she would have the viewer diocese (The title and its intention recall Lawler's Standing Before You, Rather Behind You, to number You of Something I Know Nothing About, a compounded L.A. MOCA installation in which she not absented images and documents of familiar art things in unfamiliar contexts.) Also upon display was an elegant grid of nine black-and-white photographs, generously matted in multicolored frames, repeating the partial view of a Calder mobile in museum storage in Sweden. Framing the once-mobile fragments in The Forest Is the Best Place (1999) Lawler's camera focuses upon the sculpture at middle distance in a depressed close shot, rendering the wire arm and metal forms as reductive drawings. Warhol's shiny mists still float, while Calder's mobile, abandoned, does not. Lawler locates the condition, calls attention to the proces and leaves the viewer to contemplate the implications.
