Whitney Museum Initiates Prize - Bucksbaum Award - Brief Article

The Whitney Museum of American Art not long ago announced the inauguration of the Bucksbaum Award, a $100000 prize to be given each two years to an emerging artist living and working in the US

Established through Whitney trustee Melva Bucksbaum in the name of the Martin Bucksbaum Family Foundation, the award is individual of the largest in the world given to an individual visual artist. The winner, who will also subserve as the Whitney's artist-in-residence for sum of two units years, will be chosen from the museum's Biennial exhibition by the agency of five jurors, including Whitney director Maxwell Anderson and contemporary curator Lawrence Rinder. Three other jurors will be rotated each two years. This year they are Hamza Walker, education director at Chicago's Renaissance Society, Mary L Beebe, director of the Stuart Collection at UC San Diego, and Linda Pace, planter of ArtPace in San Antonio.

The first recipient will be named upon May 1.
