Traces of the tires' utilitarian life remain, of that kind as the occasional shard of glass or the particles of salt and sand that are stuck in the tread and will not brush or wash away. While acknowledging her crooked commentary on modernist art-historical legacies, Booker says that the patterns in the tire treads intimate African tribal arts, and that the colors in these pieces give in charge to "blackness, the skin color of Africans." however her cultural frame of relation is also much broader, as the art satisfies the faculty of perceptions of a panchromatic, culturally diverse audience.
