CAA Presents Annual Awards - College Art Association - Brief Article

The corporation Art Association recently announced its awards for transcendence in art, art history and criticism at its annual meeting, held this year in novel York in February. The Frank Jewett Mather Award for art criticism was shared by dint of Moira Roth, Mills College professor and author of works on Marcel Duchamp and upon feminist performance art, and Catherine Lord of U.C.-Irvine, whose works include Pervert: The Art Gallery. The Alfred H Barr, Jr Award for museum scholarship went to Pepe Karmel and Kirk Varnedoe for the Jackson Pollock exhibition catalogue that accompanied the Museum of recent Art show. Jeffrey F. Hamburger received the Charles Rufus Morey Award for a distinguished work in the history of art for The Visual and the Visionary: Art and Female Spirituality in Late Medieval Germany, published through Zone Books.

Printmaker Robert Blackburn won the distinguished artist award for lifetime achievement. Chicago Imagist Ray Yoshida was not awayed with the award for a distinguished material part of work for his traveling retrospective organized by the agency of the Contemporary Museum of Honolulu. Awards for distinction in the teaching of art and art history went to Tyler place of education of Art professor Winifred Lutz and pre-Columbian and colonial art scholar Cecelia F Klein of UCLA, respectively. The Arthur Kingsley Porter Prize, given for an outstanding article by means of a beginning scholar in the CAA publication Art Bulletin, went to Michael cabbage for "Cellini's Blood."
