Nortons Play Santa - Brief Article

Software mogul Peter Norton and his wife, Eileen, freshly announced that they will give away a certain number of 1,000 works of contemporary art, about 40 percent of their collection, to 28 U institutions and the Tate Gallery, London. Valued at a total of approximately $3 million, the gift center upon works created in the 1990 by means of well-known artists such as Cindy Sherman, Francesco Clemente Rachel Whiteread, Raymond Pettibon, Nan Goldin and John Baldessari. Works by means of younger artists include those by dint of John Currin, Elizabeth Peyton, Wolfgang Tillmans, Nari Ward, Francis Alys and Sharon Lockhart. Many recipients of the works are small institutions, many times university and college galleries. Among the beneficiaries are Bard Center for Curatorial Studies in upstate of recent origin York, the Contemporary Museum in Honolulu, the Laguna Art Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami. Larger institutions of that kind as the Museum of present Art and the Whitney will also receive works.

The gifts are arranged in thematic packages, organized with the help of Norton collection curator Susan Cahan and independent curator Thomas Solomon For instance, the Henry Art Gallery in Seattle receives a "Conceptual Sculpture" package, featuring works by the agency of artists such as Peter Shelton, Sean Landers, Alan Rath, Ann Agee and Emil Lukas. The "Pleasure/Pain" clump goes to the Kemper Museum in Kansas City; it includes works by means of Terry Allen, James Croak and Elliot verdant among others.
