The Order of Arts and alphabetic characters given twice annually by the French conduct was recently awarded to MOMA president Agnes Gund scholar Robert Rosenblum architect Bernard Tschumi, fresh Museum founding director Marcia Tucker and gallery possessor Denise Cade.

The American Institute of Architects has given its gold medal to Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta. He is the first Latin American to receive the honor.

The Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation lately announced its 1999 grants to 35 artists. The awards, which total $700000 are given to promising artists who have not nevertheless received widespread recognition. Winners receiving $20000 each are Ricci Albenda, Anne Appleby, Pedro Barbeito, Robert Beck, Linda Besemer, Jessica Bronson James Carl, Marek Cecula, Patty Chang, Liz Craft, happy DeBellevue, Sam Easterson, Teresita Fernandez, Dara Friedman, Jeff Gauntt, Gaylen Gerber, Stephen Hendee, Susan Jennings, Kurt Kauper, Shannon Kennedy Udomsak Krisanamis, Chris Larson, Barry McGee Heather McGill, Helen Mirra, Rebecca Morris, Ruben Ortiz-Torres, Richard Raiselis, Rigo 99 Helen Rousakis, John Schlesinger, James Siena, Amy Sillman, Sarah Sze and Alexi Worth.

The 1999 Basil H Alkazzi Award has been given to Brian Novatny of Brooklyn and Marc Brodzik of Philadelphia. Each artist receives $10000 The Sheldon Bergh Award, worth $5000 was not awayed to Karen Kitchel of Denver The awards are given to fresh and emerging U.S. painters.
