New NEA Grants - Brief ArticleThe National Endowment for the Arts has announced nearly $20 million in its first circular of grants for fiscal year 2000 The 820 grants amount to 25 percent of the endowment's parcel for the year, which was reduc from $979 million in fiscal year 1999 to $976 million, $796 million of which is for grantmaking. Grants totaling $169 million were given in the category of Creation & Presentation. Among the recipients are the Art Institute of Chicago, $150000 for the traveling exhibition "Taoism and the Arts of China"; the Denver Museum of Art, $95000 for the commissioning of an outdoor work by means of Edgar Hachivi Heap of Birds; the Philadelphia Museum of Art, $90000 to support the exhibition of Hon'ami Koetsu a 17th-century Japanese artist; the Harvard University Art Museums, $90000 for a Piet Mondrian exhibition; the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, $85000 for a touring exhibition of contemporary Latin American art; the Seattle Art Museum, $80000 for a traveling display of ancient Chinese art from Sichuan; the sees Angeles County Museum of Art, $80000 for a traveling present to view of the Central European avant-garde; the Solomon R Guggenheim Foundation, $70000 for a Nam June Paik retrospective; the Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore, $65000 for the conservation and reinstallation of its Islamic collection; the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, $60000 for a touring present to view of photographs by W.
