NEA Announces 1999 Grants - Brief Article

The National Endowment for the Arts newly announced the second round of its grants for fiscal year 1999 The $58 million, comprising above 70 percent of the agency's capitals for the year, was given in three categories: Education & Access ($123 million), Heritage & Preservation ($35 million) and Planning & Stabilization ($55 million). Additional stocks were distributed to Leadership and Millennium Initiatives ($33 million), with the largest share of NEA capitals going to state and regional arts agencies for redistribution in Partnership Agreements ($334 million).

Grants in Education & Access are applied to of the like kind activities as artist residencies, national talks mobile art classes, book distribution, radio and television broadcasts, learner performances and teacher training. Organizations in the Heritage & Preservation category may use stocks to conserve significant art works and to increase the visibility of multicultural art and artists. Planning & Stabilization grants allow organizations to capital long-range planning, establish cash holds or enhance marketing and audience development

Among the recipients in the various categories are: Arts International, $240000 to support the stock for U.S. Artists at International Festivals and Exhibitions, part of the U Information Agency; the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy/Fallingwater, $78000 to save Frank Lloyd Wright's landmark house from impending collapse; P 122 in fresh York, $75,000 to support marketing initiatives. Institutions and organizations receiving grants for endowment support or to disentangle cash reserves include: the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston ($200000) the World records Fund ($120,000), the Yaddo arts colony in Saratoga Springs, NY ($100000) the Tacoma Art Museum ($75000) Artists Space ($71500) and the of recent origin Museum of Contemporary Art in fresh York ($85,000).
