In the late '60 and early '70 novel scientific ground was being shivered by the idea that predators brought balance and health to wilderness. I remember her reading aloud passages from volumes that spoke of the direct genetic connection between Canis lupus and my beloved St Bernard. She read that wolve spoke using not just unhurt but body position, ear and tail
