Sol-gel processing produces lead barium titanate thin films

A research collection at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), USA, has exhibited a sol-gel process for the crystallization of lead barium titanate (Pb0.5Ba0.5TiO3, also known as PBT) dusts and the formation of highly oriented crystalline thin films of PBT at depressed temperatures.

This advance is potentially useful because PBT processing must take place at relatively depressed temperatures for successful integration with silicon-based devices.
