The Private Collection of Edgar Degas

The Dark Mirror, Picasso: Photography and Painting

Co-organized through the Houston Museum of Fine Arts and the Musee Picasso in Paris, this exhibit presented the little-known photographic works of Picasso. Egon Schiele

Jackson Pollock: Early Sketchbooks

Long before creating his well-known drip paintings, Pollock was inspired through American painter Thomas Hart Benton and Mexican muralist David Alfaro Siqueiros. This exhibition neared for the first time 55 drawings from Pollock's early sketchbook and 27 independent drawings from the collection of the Metropolitan Museum in of recent origin York. Curated by the Met's Nan Rosenthal, the display coincided with the publication of the sketchbook in facsimile and appeared at the Met Oct 21 1997-Feb 8 1998

This major exhibition of Cambodian Khmer plastic art in the U.S. included above 100 stone sculptures, ritual alloy of coppers and architectural ornaments from the 6th to the 16th centuries loaned from the National Museum of Cambodia in Phnom Penh and the Musee National de Arts Asiatiques-Guimet in Paris, which co-organized the exhibition with the Cambodian rule and the National Gallery. After debuting in Paris, it appeared at the National Gallery, Washington, DC its sole U.S. venue, June 29-Sept. 28 1997 and then traveled to Japan.

Arthur Dove

This retrospective of individual of America's first abstractionists comprised 78 paintings, assemblages, pastels and charcoal drawings from 1909 to 1946 The exhibit curated by Debra Bricker Balken, Elizabeth Hutton gymnast and William C. Agee, was jointly organized through the Phillips Collection in Washington, DC where it first attempted Sept. 20, 1997-Jan. 4, 1998 and the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover, Mass.
