Introduction: From the EditorAs the of recent origin editor of The Journal of Educational Foundations I am pleased to announce a certain number of changes to the journal. First, I would like you to join us in welcoming three fresh members to our excellent editorial board: Darnell G cabbage University of Hawaii, Manoa Rodney K Hopson Duquesne University Anand R Marri, Teachers society Columbia University We are grateful for the past, not away and future contributions of our not absent editorial board members and we know that the of recent origin board members will serve The Journal of Educational Foundations well. Second I am pleased to announce that The Journal of Educational Foundations will now publish volume reviews. We welcome book reviews that contribute to the scholarly discourse and critical analysis of educational foundations. All scholars are welcome to submit work reviews and we especially welcome graduate learners to submit book reviews for publication consideration. Finally, by means of now you have all noticed the of recent origin cover. As the new editor of The Journal of Educational Foundations I fix it necessary to change the overlay as well. I would like to thank Alan H Jone the publisher of Caddo Gap, for allowing me to take The Journal of Educational Foundations in a of recent origin direction and I would also like to thank of recent origin Jersey City University for its continued support of the journal. We are pleased to not away four thought-provoking articles for this Summer-Fall 2005 issue. In the first article, "Affecting Social Change: The try for Educators to Transform Society," William C Sewell explores the arduous proces of academy reform by examining George s Counts' and Ivan Illich's historical assessments of educational moves Sewell compares and contrasts past reform moves with that of Jonathon Kozol and notes that "history has not been kind to reformers who have attempted to contend control of public schools from bureaucracies that impair institute quality." Sewell challenges the reader to think critically about the realities of hegemony and its affect upon contemporary reformers. In the next to the first article, "The House that Race Built: Critical Pedagogy, African American Education, and the Re-conceptualization of a Critical Race Pedagogy," Michael E Jennings and Marvin Lynn explore the analytic connections between critical pedagogy, race theorizing, and the African-American strive for humanity in a white supremacist words immediately preceding [i]or[/i] following The authors conduct a thorough review of the research related to critical pedagogy as a discourse upon schooling and inequality and then explore by what means it developed in tandem with theories of race and pedagogical practice that throw back the context of the African-American try for self-determination. The authors finish that critical pedagogy, in conjunction with Critical Race Theory, proffers a nuanced look at the part of race in educational adjoining matter that informs the development of a Critical Race Pedagogy. In the third article, "Social Foundations of Education and Democracy: Teacher Education for the unfolding of Democratically Oriented Teachers," Leigh M O'Brien argues that teacher education is an important site for the construction of democratic character and dispositions in the pre- and in-service teachers with whom we work. O'Brien indicates that by using democratic practices in their have a title to classrooms, Social Foundations teacher educators can food the development of democratically-oriented teachers and hence advance more democratic schooling and, ultimately, a more democratic society. In the final article, "Theorizing weigh heavily uponed Family Pedagogy: Critical Lessons from a Rural Black Family in the Post-Brown South" Sherick Hughes explores sum of two units generations of critical teaching and learning experienced by means of the Foresight family which has survived and thrived during and after the Freedom of Choice era of public schooling in the post-Brown southern Using the framework of Hughes' (2006) burdened Family Pedagogy (OFP), the article draws on native ethnographic research methods to theorize OFP from one side the Foresight family. Hughes argues that the family's OFP helped them get the better of the political discursive deception of Freedom of Choice by means of (a) constructing and (b) cultivating counter-discursive messages at abiding-place Hughes concludes that the PFP of endeavor and hope exists in educative ways that could expand the purview of critical pedagogy This issue ends with two book reviews by dint of Jodi Buyyounouski and Hueyli Li.
