Natalie Alper at Howard Yezersky - Boston, Massachusetts - Review of Exhibitions - Brief ArticleNatalie Alper is a regarded Boston painter and teacher. Her abstract works depict ropelike bights and visceral folds, executed in a lush gestural diction over faintly calligraphic pencil markings. Her compositions of the late 1980 were frenetically tangled, their backgrounds filled with atmospheric chaos; her new works contain illusionistic forms and display a more compact formal elegance. Their compositions are predeterined; the intricate enclosures and loops are precisely placed al, not spontaneous, as Alper balances flowing organicism with tight ascendency Titles such as Uncharted Territories, Leaving Eden and All the Angels Did Lament move what the imagery may signify.
